Dear Friends, I hope I will see you as I walk the neighborhoods of South Miami over the coming weeks. You may know that another election cycle is here, with the voting scheduled for Tuesday, February 14th. As is my practice, I like to poll the city's residents to better determine the priorities that South Miami should take in the coming years. Having served as South Miami's Mayor for two years and Commissioner for six years, I enjoy this process. This year I seek re-election as your Mayor. I have abided by the promise to place principles before politics, to serve the residents of South Miami and to embody integrity, honesty, and fairness in running local government. These past two years we've reduced the tax rate twice, we've implemented Hurricane disaster relief plans and, most importantly, we've created a surplus in place of a deficit from the previous administration. There is so much more to accomplish and like you, I'm concerned how we allocate tax dollars while providing services to the citizens of South Miami. Undoubtedly you will recognize our huge strides and improvements for the city during my tenure as mayor. |

The City has made large capital improvement projects, purchased the biggest park in the City's historythe YMCA property, and constructed a process to update the EAR which will act as the city's road map for controlled growth and development.
I'm happy that meetings have become more organized and that citizens are given their chance to contribute to the process, through public comments, e-mails, phone calls or participation in local boards and committees. I will continue improving South Miami: preserving our neighborhood's character. Please help me with your vote. Thanks for honoring me with the opportunity to serve my hometown. Very truly yours, ![]() Mary Scott Russell, Mayor of South Miami |
